• Senior qualification in Trade and State Economist (1984).

Professional experience

• Member of Parliament for Las Palmas in the 10th Legislature.
• President of the Partido Popular of the Canary Islands from October 1999 and of the PP parliamentary group in the Canary Islands parliament from 2003.
• Member of the National Executive Committee and the National Governing Board of the Partido Popular.
• Member of the regional parliament since June 2003.
• Vice-president and Treasury minister of the Canary Islands government (July 2007- October 2010).
• President of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria from June 2003 to July 2007.
• Mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria from 1995 to 2003.
• Holder of a senior qualification in Trade and State Economist since 1984.
• Professor of Macroeconomics and International Economics at the Madrid Centre for Trade Studies (1984-89).
